Youth Opportunities

PSNNC offers leadership opportunities for youth through the Youth Advisory Council and volunteerism, and offers youth opportunities in connection with the Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) and Cultural Exchange through Soccer (CETS).

More information about current events and dates can be found on the events page under “Calendar of Community Events.”

Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council is a way for youth in the community to take on a leadership role and provides a space for youth voices to be heard in decision making in the community. Whether it be in the form of activities, community events, advocacy, or self/independent publication, the Youth Advisory Council aims to create a positive change and trajectory for youth and the wider community. The youth are the future and deserve to be heard, informed, supported, and directed. It is especially important for youth in urban areas to understand, and be taught, the intricacies of living in community pockets in a larger social sphere. It is our responsibility as adults to provide youth with every access to success that they require.

The council welcomes youth between the age of 15 and 24 yrs, and meets two times a month. The council is facilitated by the Executive Director of PSNNC, as well as PSNNC staff. The council is a 6 month commitment.

For more information and to learn how to get involved, reach out to PSNNC at psnnc@psnnc.org.

Youth Works Employer

Through the Youth Works Employer program run by WCAC, PSNNC engages youth in community development and networking by providing them a job at PSNC. The program is state-funded, and helps both teens and young adults develop professional skills that are needed to get and keep jobs. The program takes place during the summer for short term placements at a variety of different work sites, ranging from private to non-profit. Participants gain valuable skills, such as communication, team work, time management, organization, leadership skills, and many more.

More information about this program, eligibility requirements, and how to apply can be found on the Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) website here.

CETS (Cultural Exchange through Soccer)

CETS offers a way for youth in the Worcester community to open themselves to diversity through playing, teaching, and sharing their passion for soccer, one of the most played sports in the world. CETS goal is to provide youth leadership development opportunities. Every year, CETS puts on the Worcester World Cup, where Worcester community members from all walks of life join forces to play soccer and compete.

CETS offers a number of programs for many different ages. Their Youth Leaders program is where young community members can better their leadership skills and work with the younger population of Worcester. Other programs include Women’s Group, Skill Builders, Youth Squad, and many more.

More information about CETS and all the programs they have to offer can be found on the Cultural Exchange Through Soccer (CETS) website here
